3 Signs You Would Make A Great Security Guard

by Kim Miller

In movies, security teams are always dressed nicely and focused on the details, which can make it an alluring profession. However, there are many reasons that people today make the move to becoming a security guard, and the attire isn't the top item on the list. Here are three signs you would make a great security guard, and why you might like the job.

1. You Love Puzzles When you work in security, your entire job will be watching for clues that someone is up to no good. Whether someone is wearing something strange or behaving in a manner that doesn't fit their surroundings, it will be up to you to track, monitor, and record what they do, so that you can bring them to justice.

The puzzle aspect of becoming a security guard is important because it's important that you pay attention to small details. Whether someone comes into a store wearing a heavy coat on a summer's day or a person has been circling the high-value items for a little too long, spotting something different is critical for being an excellent security guard.

2. You Enjoy Solitude When you work in security, you may find yourself working alone or with a select few people for hours at a time. If you don't mind being alone, working as a security guard can be an excellent career that meshes with your personality. Think about how you feel when you do solitary tasks like going on a walk, fishing, or being alone at home. If you enjoy the feeling, you might find it fun and relaxing to be a security guard.

3. Confrontation Doesn't Bother You Spotting a problem in the area that you attend is important since you will be called on to take corrective action. You may be asked to escort someone back to the security office for questions until the police arrive, or you may be asked to take a statement from someone who saw the incident. Either way, you have to be comfortable being in confrontational settings from time to time. If you don't feel shy standing up for the right thing, working as a security guard can be a rewarding career.

If you are considering a security job, don't hesitate to reach out to a training program in your area to discuss the aspects of your job. Ask them what the training program entails, how much it costs, and how much time it takes. By thinking about your lifestyle and what you like, you could enjoy an excellent career.
